WORKSHOPS

Our instructors are not just outstanding artists, they know how to teach. Our workshops typically have a demonstration in the morning of the first day and provide close-up views of what the instructor is doing on a large screen, visible from all angles. The curriculum of the remainder of the workshop is determined by the instructor.

We have a 2,400 square feet facility in a tranquil spot and provide easels, palette tables, stools, chairs, lighting and wonderful refreshments. We always have an artist-monitor to assist the instructor and the students so that everyone can completely focus on painting.

Finally, we have an instructor/student party at our house in the evening of the first or second day to get to know each other in a fun and relaxed way. This is one way for us to make sure that our workshops are not just very well organized and instructive events but also a very enjoyable experience for everybody.

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION INFO & REFUND POLICY
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING

Workshop Times
9 or 10 am to 4 or 5 pm, one-hour lunch break (refreshments will be served during the workshop)

NOTE: Models fees are not included in the tuition

Location
813 Edgecliff Drive, Langley, WA unless you are notified of another location.

Payments

A $250 deposit is due upon registration and is refundable up to 4 months before the start date of the workshop less a $100 administration fee. After that date the deposit is not refundable.
Balance to be paid 3 months before the workshop at which time all payments are non-refundable.
Workshops cancelled by Whidbey Island FAS will be promptly and fully refunded.
Model fees, if any, are extra and depend on the number of students.
Payments can made via PayPal or by check made out to: WIFAS, 813 Edgecliff Drive, Langley, WA 98260.

Transfers
Up to 3 months before its start date, payments made for a workshop can be transferred once to another one in the same year without charge. After 3 months, a transfer maybe requested but is at the sole discretion of WIFAS. If granted a $100 administration fee will be added to the tuition.

WIFAS reserves the rights to dismiss or refuse without refund participants that are not in compliance with the terms or conduct rules in the studio.
All communications for the workshops are made by email alone; make sure you use the right email and the right name when registering.
Workshops may be cancelled by WIFAS up to one month prior to start date of workshop. Please make a note of this in connection with making traveling plans; WIFAS accepts no responsibility for any expenses associated with unrecoverable travel costs or reservations.
Whidbey Island FAS is not responsible for lost or stolen articles during and workshops and any activities related to the workshop.
Participant agrees that Whidbey Island FAS is not liable for any injury, physical or mental.

Studio & Conduct Rules

Please no other odorless mineral spirits than Gamsol or D-sol.
Do not bring your own easel as you will be provided with one (except of course in a plein air workshop).
Easel positions will be determined by raffle.
Please refrain from talking when class is in session.
When using pastels please use wet towel to catch particles.
No photos of models during the workshop (you may discuss taking photos with them during lunch or after class for a fee).
Model pose will be determined by the Instructor and the monitor will be in charge of any adjustments.
Photos of the instructor’s demo can be taken during breaks not during the painting.
No cell phone use except during breaks.
Keep top on Gamsol/D-sol when not using.
Please keep large items in your car until needed.

Hi Cary - I want to thank you for an impeccable week of painting with Rob Liberace! I knew I would learn from watching Rob paint but his style of teaching and personality were a pleasant surprise. Your organization and hospitality (great food!) really made this a great week. Though I know you have little control over the chemistry of the students, I thought it could not have been better. In total, a great week for me and the other guys from Tennessee.
Please send me the information on the planned trip to the Netherlands. My wife is interested in joining me if this should come to pass. If you are planning this, I know it will be perfect.

On David Gray's Workshop

- I wanted to thank you and Sieb first for the lovely dinner at your house. I admired you so much for being able to put that together yourself (with Sieb's assistance I'm sure). Your lasagna was just great, really special!

David Gray was an outstanding instructor and I am truly in awe of his skill as a painter, both of portraits and his one still life that he showed us. He was nice, too. I learned a lot, and most of it I would be hard pressed to put into words.

So once thanks for hosting us and seeing to our needs during the day.

On Max Ginsburg's workshop

What a privilege and pure joy to have had the opportunity to attend the Max Ginsburg workshop at Whidbey Fine Arts Studio. Max is a true master of both art and instruction. While he is demonstrating painting, he clearly explains every aspect from design to block-in to brush strokes. As the students paint, he moves from artist to artist, discussing what is working and what might be done to improve their paintings. The workshop was a very wonderful and positive experience.

Furthermore, Cary is an absolutely wonderful hostess and coordinator of the Whidbey Fine Arts events. I loved every minute of the five-day workshop. Thank you.

On Zhaoming Wu's Workshop

Zhoaming Wu makes the difficult look easy. He is a master of color, edges, and 'romance' in the painting. The models were inspiring and even the snacks were outstanding. Thanks for a great workshop that I will remember for a long time.

I love having local artists teach; being in touch with people we can see again and who are in touch with our community (general and artistic) is really great. I also enjoyed the people in the group...fun getting acquainted there too. The size of the group was marvelous...just right.""I learned to think about not just connecting the objects to each other in a still life, but to think ahead about something about myself I want to connect to the painting, then use that as a genuine way to select the objects and arrange them in a way that expresses something to me. Ultimately, I am sure that will relay a stronger painting to the viewer." I learned that one should always have a story or event that the still life is about before starting the painting. Also using a shadow box is really helpful.
