Expressive Flower Painting in Oil
September 27 - 29
Tuition: $500
Skill level: all levels
Flowers are incredibly rewarding and beautiful subjects – but also very challenging! This workshop will illuminate some crucial concepts that will make flower painting a little less intimidating – and also introduce you to some exciting tools and techniques that will bring new drama and texture to your oil paintings.
Catherine Bobkoski brings her extensive academic and figurative experience to the practice of representing flowers. In this workshop, we will develop our paintings the same way you might begin a figure drawing – with gesture, structure, and a clear value statement.
During the first day of class, students will focus on how to simplify complex forms, design a clear value statement, and work with a limited palette. These are foundational concepts, which will help you to approach any complex subject with more confidence.
During the next two days of the workshop, Catherine will demonstrate exciting methods for painting with unusual tools like brayers, color shapers, palette knives, and more. Explore fun and exciting techniques for building fascinating textures and layers of colors in your floral paintings!
Instructor demonstrations and individual feedback and support will help you grow in your understanding and appreciation of the subject. If you have found flowers to be a challenging subject, then following this approach will be an eye-opening experience.
